Assignment for last class activity

Dear all,

On the last day of class, we want to do some fun activities dealing with grammar. Therefore, your assignment for after Thanksgiving break is to come up with some kind of activity that contains grammatical learning, and still is fun to perform (as a practice for inventing lesson plans for your future students, for those who want to teach....).

You will submit your proposal on November 27th, the first class after Thanksgiving break.
I will select the best ones, and we will do a lottery and pick some to be performed on the last day of class.

If you need material for that, write this in your proposal, too, so I/we can get it in time!

Treat your proposal like a "grant proposal." You will receive an additional email about the required layout, and the subheadings.

You can start researching ideas whenever you want....

Since we have approximately 20 students in the class with a fluctuating daily attendance, I propose a series of grammar games that are based around teams of 3-4 students. Points could be tallied for bonus grade points. Stations and games could be set up to represent different things that we have learned in class. A running tally on the board would encourage us on. Competition can be a wonderful thing, especially when it is counterpointed with the cooperation inherent in teams. Charades on common grammar mistakes could be one event.

I love charades, but I don't know how we can mold it to fit grammar mistakes. I agree that games are a great way to help work on grammar.

I think everyone could use some bonus points.

So, are we going to be completing more than one exercise on the last day, or just the final one we choose from a hat? The semester is almost over, woo-hoo!

I think games are a fun way to learn, especially for grammar and secondary students. The games we come up with might have to be a little juvenile. I think we would all get the idea for a future class though. Does this mean we will do this instead of a final exam? Sounds good to me.

I thing this is a great idea however since attendance is up and down in the class it would be hard getting everyone together. This is a really good idea though. Not only will we get to enjoy the fruits of our labor but we also get to do it will interacting with the world of grammar!

It is unfortunate that I am not very creative, because a fun game or activity would be fun. I think that if we broke into teams on 4 or 5, and 1 person from each team goes up to the board (everyone will get a turn) and someone will read off a question from a sheet of paper, having to do with grammar, and the first person to write the correct answer on the board wins. The questions can range anywhere from spelling to putting a word into a certain tense...etc.

I think that its a great idea to let the students pick what we should do on the last day of class! This will give all of the students in the class a chance to discuss what we like/disliked about the class. A future teacher like myself finds this especially valuable since i will have to do lesson plans, basically for the rest of my life. Practice makes perfect and i think that this is a great chance for me. I can't wait to see the ideas of other students. It should be lots of fun!
